Bitget Launches Starlink Program to Bridge Philippine Digital Divide in Island Communities

Bitget, a leading cryptocurrency exchange and Web3 company, has initiated its Starlink Program to combat digital inequality in the Philippines by delivering high-speed satellite internet to remote island communities. The program's initial phase rolled out in Siargao, specifically at Espoir School of Life and Barangay Pitogo, aiming to close significant connectivity gaps that have historically impeded progress in education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. By deploying Starlink's advanced technology, Bitget intends to empower these communities with reliable internet access, thereby establishing a foundation for future blockchain education and financial inclusion.

For years, Siargao’s residents have grappled with unstable microwave radio connections, leading to frequent outages, slow internet speeds, and exclusion from the digital economy. Educational institutions like Espoir School, which caters to underprivileged children, have been confined to offline learning, while villages such as Barangay Pitogo have faced isolation due to unreliable communication networks.

Vugar Usi Zade, COO at Bitget, emphasized that without stable internet, entire communities are cut off from modern education, remote work, and even essential services like telemedicine. He asserted that internet access is a fundamental right, not a privilege, forming the bedrock for everything from education to decentralized finance. Bitget’s strategy involves building pathways to the digital world, one island at a time. The first phase of the program includes the installation of Starlink hardware at Espoir School and Barangay Pitogo’s public school, providing six months of high-speed satellite internet. This will facilitate access to online curricula, teacher training, and e-governance tools.

Looking ahead, Bitget plans to offer long-term support through its $10M Blockchain 4 Youth and $10M Blockchain 4 Her initiatives. These programs will introduce blockchain literacy and digital finance skills to students and women-led cooperatives. The total investment for this phase amounts to 155,400 Philippine pesos, covering hardware, subscriptions, and logistics.

Bitget’s initiative highlights a growing understanding within the crypto industry: that adoption begins with access. By first addressing infrastructure barriers, the exchange is developing a scalable model for other underserved regions. Future phases of the program may extend to neighboring islands, leveraging collaborations with local NGOs and government entities.

The Starlink kits are scheduled to become operational in May, with Bitget committed to documenting the rollout through impact reports and community narratives. For the students at Espoir, the immediate impact will be access to interactive lessons, global collaborations, and upcoming blockchain workshops. For Barangay Pitogo, it signifies a major step towards resilient communication, especially crucial during typhoon seasons. As Bitget expands this program, it reinforces a clear message: the future of crypto extends beyond markets to focus on people, and sometimes, transforming lives begins with something as fundamental as an internet signal.
