The announcement was made by the Del Carmen Tourism Office, which emphasized the importance of preserving the natural beauty and ecological balance of the area.

During this period, the local government will also carry out repairs and upgrades to tourism facilities to enhance the overall visitor experience. This initiative reflects Del Carmen’s commitment to sustainable tourism and ensuring the long-term preservation of its natural treasures.

Department of Tourism (DOT) Caraga Regional Director Ivonnie Dumadag praised the Del Carmen government for its proactive approach to environmental conservation and sustainable tourism.

“The temporary closure of Sugba Lagoon is a necessary step to ensure the area’s ecological health and to improve the comfort and experience of future visitors,” Dumadag said. She also highlighted the importance of balancing tourism growth with environmental protection, a key principle of sustainable travel.
